Mixed News at King Rally
Some 30 brave souls rallied for “Medicare for All” in front of Non-Representative Steve King’s Sioux City, IA, office in cold, drizzly weather, Sat. afternoon, May 20.
Boasting posters such as “Medicare, not WealthCare” and “Tax the Rich,” the group of Native-Americans and Anglos chanted and heard several short, impassioned speeches about HealthCare being a Right, not a privilege.
The rally was held under a cloud, however, because two days earlier, Planned Parenthood announced the closing the four of its twelve Iowa offices because the Iowa GOP-controlled legislature and the governor refused federal Medicaid money that would have allowed the clinics to stay open. In brief, Iowa is following the disastrous example of Texas, which 18 months after refusing federal money for women’s health care, is now begging for it because its “replacement” program has proven so inadequate. (At one time, Iowa was known for it high level of education. Now it’s proving to be a really slow learner.)
